Description

This trail veers off the Little Tesuque Trail to climb on loose and rocky tread though pinyon and juniper forest to saddle at a fence-line. Through this gate, the trail descends, switchbacking through an old burn scar, hence the trail's other name, Burn Trail.

The tread is good hardpack to the bottom of the switchbacks. Here the trail follows a seasonal stream bed which can sometimes be sandy and rocky. Just as you reach the Winsor National Recreation Trail the trail digs through alluvial deposits and spits you out onto the Winsor.
