If severe fire danger is present (typically late in the Summer) the preserve may be closed to all access.
Overview
This is a nice multi-use loop trail on singletrack that is great for hiking, though you may need to share! Good views and an interesting mountain make this a choice trail to enjoy. The trail weaves around the mountain, so it's hard to get lost and is never a long climb or big descent.
Need to Know
No water at the parking area or any other facilities so be prepared. There is a large all weather map in the east side of the parking lot as you step into the preserve.
Description
During the mornings, it helps to hike in the clockwise direction as you may get shade on the west side during the summer so that makes it cooler. Then coming around and down the other side means the sun is less likely to be in your eyes.
At the trailhead there is a large map, so study your route ahead of time as there are some turns or splits in the trail. These do allow for options on the east side coming back, or on the west side, there are options to extend this hike.
Flora & Fauna
Desert! The trail width is good for hiking and the infrequent climbs make this a flatter option than some other hikes in this region.
