Description
This former logging road leads to an unobstructed viewpoint on a rocky outcrop. The out-and-back trail to Ariel Point is said to lead to the best of the nearby viewpoints. Some route finding on the plateau may be necessary on this fading trail (following the GPS track on your phone using this website's
Hiking Project mobile app is highly recommended).
Starting from its junction with the
Komo Point Trail, take the Ariel Point Trail south, being sure to stay on the old roadbed. When in doubt, keep to the highest point on the ridgeline as it descends towards the canyon rim. You may see old trail markers on the trees, but these disappear in the burned area. Pass through sparse trees and occasional meadows before coming to a junction with the
Walhalla Connector.
Continue straight south to stay on the Ariel Point Trail. The path's descent becomes a bit steeper as it gets closer to the rim. The trail ends near Ariel Point which lies on a rugged projection from the rim.
