Overview
This area features the dry lake bed of Foss Lake, a very quiet and peaceful area. Expect solitude and open trails as this is not a highly visited area.
Need to Know
Trails begin in the parking area. There are many options to explore.
Description
There is no true trailhead at this refuge. The trails are all over the place from game, hunters, and pedestrians alike. The Foss Lake area is a very nice place to freely explore, so do so at your leisure.
There are a lot of brush and cactus, making some areas nicer to walk on than others. Specifically the vehicle trails that run through the area.
Enjoy the views, wildlife and peace on offer here. This place has it all.
Flora & Fauna
Get a bird’s eye view of the mouth of Foss Lake from the observation tower. Waterfowl and sandhill cranes roost here in the winter and pelicans and songbirds dwell here year round. A favorite spot for bald eagles in the winter time!
