Description
This very short loop begins near the Silver Lake Village area. Head east from the top of the Silver Lake Express chairlift along the bottom of the McHenry ski run. You'll pass underneath the top of the Homestake ski lift to get to the start of the Nabob Loop Trail. Hike along the McHenry ski run for a short distance before branching off to the right on what looks like a narrower ski run. Stay on this easy, alpine forest lined path until reaching the Nabob ski run. Without crossing the ski run, the trail turns sharply northwards back into the pretty forest and begins a series of downhill switchbacks. When the switchbacks end and the trail begins ascending, you have the option of a.) emerging back onto McHenrys ski run and using it to return westwards (left) to end the loop at the Silver Lake Village area OR b.) continuing through the trees westwards on the Nabob Loop trail. The later option is more shaded and passes through a couple of tiny clearings before rejoining the McHenry ski run. Note: bikes are not allowed on the Nabob Trail.
Fun factoid: the definition of "nabob" is a wealthy person, so this trail's name fits with the theme of the other trails on this mountain!
