Awesome introduction to Sedona; great on its own or as part of a bigger route in the Dry Creek area.

Description

The main Chuckwagon loop is accessed from Long Canyon Road just south of Long Canyon Trailhead. Use this trail in any direction, but going counter-clockwise is recommended.

The first third of the hike is rolling, playful trail that contours in and out of slickrock washes. The middle part of the loop is a gradual uphill and descent through the intersection with Brinns Mesa Trail. Stay left to continue on Chuckwagon, crossing a drainage and the road before ascending again up a small hillside.

The route levels out and heads south after an uphill section of exposed slickrock. From here, the trail twists and turns through the pinion/juniper forest towards Long Canyon. A few sections of the descent are loose and rocky - watch your step!

The Chuckwagon Loop ends at the Long Canyon Trail. Cross the road to access Mescal and Long Canyon.
