Idyllic and uncrowded, the Mirror Lakes area of Rainier National Park is well worth the trip.

Description

From the intersection with the Wonderland Trail (just north of Indian Henry's Patrol Cabin) the Mirror Lakes trail is a short side-trip to visit a handful of tiny lakes. Head northeast at a gentle incline, crossing snowfields or creeks depending on the season. Arrive at this sparsely wooded basin and, if the weather cooperates, snap the iconic "mountain + reflection + lake" picture. These petite lakes with otherwise inviting shorelines can be buggy. The groundcover and nearby trees turn attractive colors in the fall. Some folks push on past the "end of maintained trail" sign to an overlook to see the South Tahoma Glacier.

This trail is maintained less frequently than other main routes and was not built to handle a lot of traffic, so expect snow and mud.
