Family Friendly Children will love the spectacular 130-foot waterfall at the hike's end.

Road to trailhead is not maintained in winter.

Overview

This short out and back requires only a small amount of work for its reward. It can feel very isolated and peaceful mid-week, but more crowded on weekends.

Need to Know

Be advised that the road to the trailhead can be quite rough between grading and graveling services, so reconsider if you have a low clearance vehicle. The road also receives no maintenance or plowing in winter.

Description

The hike follows Olympic National Forest Murhut Falls Trail #828. This family friendly out and back begins gradually on a wide, former logging road. The uphill is non-taxing over a smooth surface. You'll hear the rush of the falls on a slight descent before you arrive at the falls themselves. The tiered waterfall, mossy rocks and pools are especially impressive after a rain. In the last 100 yards, the trail is a bit more narrow with a drop-off to one side, so keep an eye on kids here.

Flora & Fauna

Rhododendron, mushrooms.

It's so close you can almost reach it. Head just around the corner to see Murhut Falls.

Fairly secluded trail. Pretty easy hike about 2 miles round trip. The waterfall is spectacular. Take heed, the road to get there is extremely potholed 2mi — 11h 00m
