Upper trailhead (Hurricane Hill Road) is accessed via Hurricane Ridge road, entry fee required. Hurricane Ridge road is open every day in the summer but only Fri - Sun & Holidays (weather permitting) from 9am - 4pm during the winter season. Hurricane Hill road is snowbound in winter as a cross country ski track. Lower trailhead (Whiskey Bend) not accessible by vehicle, only on foot or bicycle due to Olympic Hot Springs Road washout.

Description

Although most people hike in from either end and turn around at some point, the entire length of this trail is lovely. Because this was a road once, the grade is consistent and gentle for the most part.

Starting from the Hurricane Hill Road, head west through open meadows passing clumps of trees. Begin the descent by switchbacking crazily down into a valley. The forest becomes much denser and the trail twists and turns. Soon, the path approaches Wolf Creek and plunges down a ridgeline. Near the trail's end, leave Wolf Creek and cross a ridge into the Elwha River Valley. Contour down one final hillside to arrive at the Whiskey Bend Trailhead. Retrace your steps to return.

Flora & Fauna

Deer, marmot, grouse, junco, slugs. Starflower, lilies, penstamon, larkspur, sedum, paintbrush, etc. Cedar, madrones, salal.
