Overview
The trail is well defined and can be done either as an out and back loop from either of the parking lots or it can be done one way with a shuttle. The loop is approximately 3.5 miles round trip.
Description
This trail is located just inside the east entrance to the Colorado National Monument (Grand Junction entrance). Park in the first parking lot on the left after you enter the park. You'll find the Serpents Trail trailhead across the street.
The trail ascends approximately 850 feet over the course of 1.75 miles up to the Upper Serpents Trail trailhead. Dramatic views of the Book Cliffs, Uncompaghre plateau, Devil's Kitchen and Grand Junction await you at every one of the 18 switchbacks on this well maintained dirt grade.
Flora & Fauna
Lots of cottontail frequent this trail and the smell of silver sage is abundant all along the trail.
