Dogs Leashed
Description
The Randall Trail is located about two miles north of Woodville (also known as Dogtown) off Highway 1 (also known as Shoreline Highway). The winding trail is a former ranch road that runs through dense woods and crosses occasional small clearings. Initially, climb the ridge between two dammed ponds, Hagmaier Pond North and South. The grade is steady with only brief flat bits. The trail was named for widow Sarah Randall who was an early pioneer in this valley. Her ranch and diary where she raised a large family still stand nearby.
When choosing between Randall and
McCurdy trails here are some points to consider:
McCurdy has fewer switchbacks, more views and covers 1317 feet in elevation change in 1.9 miles. Randall is forested and therefore shady, and covers 945 feet elevation change over 1.7 miles. Most users report that
McCurdy "feels" steeper than Randall. Note: bikes are allowed on the Randall Trail.
