Approaching Surprise Pass from the south. Almost at the pass, peaks on the other side to the north, begin to appear. Pass is just behind near ridge (running center to right). It can get rather blustery up here in these high meadows and on the scree.

Cute, little tarn at the base of Bastille Mountain, 8,350 ft. (right), is very close to Surprise Pass on its south side.
