Endangered whitebark pine high on a Great Divide ridge near Sage Pass. Needles in clusters of five identify this conifer as a whitebark pine. Other conifers are also found here growing in this place of harsh conditions.

Directly to the south, Sage Pass, on the Great Divide, is the saddle in the center. The Great Divide continues south on the ridge climbing right, then left from Sage Pass.
The trail runs on a high ridge of the Great Divide here, with a slow melting cornice to the right, cracked, could fall down the cliff. In the distance are Font Mountain (right center) and Mount Matkin (right). Seen looking west-northwest.
