Butte Lake to Snag Lake Trail (West) begins in the beautiful fir forest at Butte Lake Campground.
Nobels Emigrant Trail (East).
On the left is a close up look at the black boulders of the Fantastic Lava Beds, as Nobles Emigrant Trail (East) runs next to them. These large boulders were formed by slow cooling lava from Cinder Cone.
Butte Lake
The trail departs the upper side of the parking lot and begins to climb into the forest. The trail is volcanic sand and depending on the area, it can be compact and easy to walk on or loose and like walking on the beach.
