The grasslands at this end of the hike are almost polar opposite to the barren landscape at the start.
Once you start it can seem as there is no end to the rock switchbacks that dominate this trail.
At this point it's hard to say if catching a view is more important than catching you breath.
Ashley makes her way upwards on the long climb.
Ascending from Ko'olau Gap on Halemau'u Trail.
Where some see a hitching post others will find a good spot to stretch before tackling the switchbacks ahead.
