The Alder Trail follows a grass trail beneath the Hawk Ridge Trail as it winds its way to the gate close to the park boundary.
The hills surrounding the Russian Ridge Preserve, and the Pacific Ocean, can be seen off in the distance.
A windmill sits along the preserve boundary, with the bay area spreading out before you.
The trail ends at this gate close to the park boundary. Water runs through the gully where the trees are.
While most of the preserve is made up of fields and forests, there are a few rock formations that stand out.
The road enters a forest of oak and madrone trees. Moss grows on the trees, and provides shade throughout the trail.
From the Ridge Trail, you can see the Hawk Trail descending the hillside and the Alder Spring below that.
