After passing through the gate, the trail hugs the ridge line and changes into a dirt track.
The trail descends into the preserve, but there are a couple of great views before it re-enters the woods.

The Clouds Rest Trail is wide through this section. This is looking back up the hill you just descended.
The trail descends into the preserve, but there are a couple of great views before it re-enters the woods.
On the left side, private homes are visible from the preserve as turkey vultures soar overhead.
A coyote stands in the field in the afternoon just off of the Clouds Rest Alternate Trail. The fields are popular feeding grounds for animals in the evening.
Wildflowers can be seen growing in the upper portions of the trail, even in the fall.
Views of the Bay Area stretch out before you. If you look closely in the field, you can see two coyotes before they get scared off.
This alternate trail leads to sweeping views of the area.
