Rocks move downhill leaving tracks behind them. This is reminiscent of the racetrack in the northern part of the park.
Sunrise can be spectacular from the Desolation Canyon Trail.
The trail as it winds its way through the canyon. The canyon gets a lot of sunlight, even in the morning, so make sure you have plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat to protect you from the sun.
Some scrambling is required on the trail, as you can see by the 6 foot dryfall on the right that has to be climbed in order to continue on the trail.
Another rock wall that requires a little bit of scrambling. If you have poles, you either have to put them in your pack or throw them up so you can make the scramble.
A gravel wash encroaches on the trail. Take the opportunities in shaded areas like this to take a break and drink some water before continuing on your way.
