The Gorge of Despair isn't too far off of the Middle Fork Trail, but is worth the work!
You'll cross Crown Creek on the Middle Fork Trail as you make your way through the Tehipite Valley.
Climbing Kettle Ridge, you'll have awesome views looking toward Monarch Divide. In late summer, this climb is dry, hot, and has no water. It's a mediocre hike until you get beyond this point.
The Gorge of Despair is a short jaunt off the Middle Fork Trail, but the views are worth the trip.
