Alta Lake [Suggest Edits]

Description

This is a long, narrow lake perched on a bench above the Middle Fork of Oregon's Rogue River. The reflections on the lake at sunrise and sunset are particularly beautiful, as is the view of the peaks around Devils Peak from the north end of the lake. This is an excellent destination for a long hike (from the Seven Lakes Trailhead) or as an overnight backpacking destination (campsites are above the lake on Violet Hill) or as part of the Rogue Wolf Loop.

All-Day Hike: The most direct access to Alta Lake is to start from the Seven Lakes Trailhead, take the Seven Lakes Trail #981, past Frog Lake, to the Alta Lake Trail #979.
