Description
Choquequirao - the sister of Machu Picchu - is an old Inca site in the heart of the Andes. The Incas of the Vilcabamba valley sought refuge here from the Spanish. The name means "Cradle of Gold" - another reference to its grandeur at the time. This archaeological park is part of Peru's national heritage.
Overnight Trip: This site can be reached via the Choquequirao Trail, typically a two day overnight trip from Capuliyoc.
Gem Type: Historic Site
