Sulphur Gates [Suggest Edits]
Description
Two very different rivers meet among the towering cliffs here at Sulphur Gates. Basically, the cliffs are the "gates" the rivers flow through to meet each other, with the Sulphur River emptying into the Smoky River.
The Sulphur River is smaller and its water is clear. In contrast, the powerful Smoky River is significantly larger and laden with glacial silt giving it a lighter aquamarine color.
Geologic details can be read in one of the pictures for this gem.
Short Walk: The short quarter mile hike to see Sulphur Gates is found at the southeast corner of the parking area at the end of the road. Several well built viewing platforms are built into the cliffs along this hike.
Family Friendly: Awesome views of cliffs towering over two rivers as one empties into the other. Make sure to carefully supervise the little ones here among the cliffs.
