Chagoopa Falls [Suggest Edits]
Description
Chagoopa Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Sierras. It plunges 1,200 feet down the west side cliffs of Kern Canyon, deep in the remote backcountry of Sequoia National Park. Chagoopa Creek headwaters begin in the high basins on the east side of the Great Western Divide near the Kaweah Peaks. The creek flows east across the high Chagoopa Plateau and drops off the plateau into the Kern River at the bottom of Kern Canyon.
Overnight Trip: Chagoopa Falls is seen from the High Sierra Trail along the Kern River in Kern Canyon.
The High Sierra Trail can be used to reach Chagoopa Falls from either the west or east High Sierra Trail trailheads. One can also hike through the Golden Trout Wilderness from the Horseshoe Meadow trailhead, to the Kern River, and then about ten miles up the Kern River on Lower Kern Trail. Other routes can be discovered with a good trail map.
