Hulston Grist Mill [Suggest Edits]
Description
Hulston Mill was originally established at the confluence of the Sac River & Turnback Creek in 1840. The mill played a unique role in the fight for Missouri during the Civil War. Without food supplies from Hulston Mill, the Union Army might have been forced to retreat northward closer to supply lines.
Instead, well supplied, the Union Army engaged Confederate forces near Springfield in the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. The mill exchanged several ownerships and was active until 1967 when a reservoir was planned which would flood the area. Through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, the mill was entirely moved to its present site. The mill is open for tours and working demonstrations on the second Saturday of Summer months from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Short Walk: Parking is next to the mill.
