Steptoe Butte [Suggest Edits]
Description
At the heart of Steptoe Butte State Park lies its eponymous butte. This ancient cone of rock protrudes far above the Palouse landscape below. Breathtakingly tall from a distance, this formation provides wonderful, 360-degree views from the top. While there is no hiking in this park, the peak is accessible by car on the park's road. The peak itself includes a bench, interpretive signs, and a pit toilet. This strange aspect of the land is a must-see for anyone visiting Whitman County/the Palouse.
On the Road: This place is highly accessible as it is built around a paved if at times treacherous autoroad. While there is no fee to enter the park there is a $10 parking fee.
Gem Type: Geologic Feature
