Description

Dedicated to then General Grant in 1867, this tree is the second largest in Kings Canyon-Sequoia and third largest in the world. This 1,600 year old giant stands 267 ft. tall, 29 ft. wide, and served as the main area for General Grant National Park until it was expanded into King's Canyon and renamed. In 1926, Calvin Coolidge declared Grant to be our "National Christmas Tree" though at the time it was thought to be the world's largest instead of Sherman. President Eisenhower would later add the title of "National Shrine" to those who died in battle.

Short Walk: Just take the first right after the Kings Canyon Visitor Center, and take the road to just about the end and it opens into a large parking lot. Follow the General Grant Tree Trail a few hundred feet to the tree. Wander and see the other exhibits on this short, easy, loop.

Family Friendly: A flat, soft, dirt path that's close to the main highway and camping. Historic landmarks and scenery together.
