Hobart Bluff [Suggest Edits]

Description

The open, rocky top of Hobart Bluff offers views in all directions. From the bluff, hikers will enjoy views of Mount Shasta to the south, the Gearhart Mountain Wilderness far to the east, Pilot Rock and Mount Ashland to the west, and the entire Rogue River Valley.

Short Hike: The easiest and shortest access is via the Pacific Crest Trail starting from the Hobart Bluff Trailhead. The trailhead is 4 miles south of Highway 66 on gravel Soda Mountain Road. From there, it is 3 miles roundtrip to the top of the bluff. This hike is popular and can be busy on summer weekends and holidays. This trailhead may be blocked by snow between December and April.

The bluff is also good a destination for a snowshoe outing during the winter. You can approach from where the snowplow stops on Soda Mountain Road, but the parking there is very limited. It's better to approach from the north via the PCT starting from Green Springs Summit on Highway 66. There is ample off-highway parking there for this 6-mile roundtrip snowshoe.
