Description
You are sure to enjoy the sight of this rare Crested Saguaro. It is estimated that only 1 in 10,000 Saguaro's are crested. The Saguaro Cactus (Carnegia gigantea) is a trademark symbol of the Sonoran Desert. What causes the rare crested mutation is unknown. A couple popular theories is that it is either a response to environmental event like a freeze or it might be a hormonal imbalance that affects the amount of pleats that are grown.
Short Hike: It'a approximately 3 miles if departing from the Richard Gesner Trailhead. This crested is approximately 20 yards on the north side of the trail and can easily be enjoyed from the trail.

Hiked with Lani from Geyer trailhead. Rockwren to Yetman for 1.2 then turned around to hit Starr Pass Trail back to car. 21500 steps, 4 hours.
