Requiring a minimum of 4.4 miles roundtrip, this extraordinary viewpoint can provide a more secluded location to explore away from higher-visitation areas.

The route winds to the northeast from the Rock Harbor area between the forest and shoreline zones. The contrast between the closeness and shelter of the woods and the powerful vastness of Lake Superior is dramatic, especially on a stormy day.

Hike all or part of this route using the Stoll Memorial Trail and Scoville Point Trail in any number of configurations and distances to experience the threshold between land and lake. Look for the interpretive signs along the Stoll Memorial Trail that provide information about the formative geological processes and their effect on the surrounding areas.

There is a memorial plaque honoring Albert Stoll Jr., a conservation editor with the Detroit News, who was directly involved in the efforts that lead to the formation of Isle Royal National Park.

Half-Day Hike: Located around 2.2 miles northeast from the Rock Harbor Visitor Center along the Stoll Memorial Trail and Scoville Point Trail.
