Bear Creek Falls [Suggest Edits]

Description

Bear Creek Falls is a beautiful waterfall that flows directly underneath Highway 550 near the town of Ouray. The fact that this waterfall flows underneath the highway makes it unique, and also easy to miss if you don't know where it is as the waterfall is not visible while driving. To view the waterfall there's a large parking area along the west side of the road. Note that this parking area is much easier to access if driving south on 550.

The waterfall bursts out from underneath the highway and is an impressive sight. The observation platform extends over the edge of the cliff and enables you to get a clear view of the waterfall.

You'll also have a stunning view up the Uncompahgre River Valley and surrounding mountain peaks. A handful of informative plaques tell of the history and geography of the area, and a couple of benches make for a nice place to sit and enjoy the stellar view.

On the Road: Paved parking area directly off highway. Observation platform provides view of waterfall.
