Box Cañon Falls [Suggest Edits]

Description

Box Cañon Falls Park & Nature Center is one of the gems of Ouray, Colorado. A short, elevated metal walkway takes you into the box canyon and to a thundering waterfall. This is a very popular attraction, so don't expect to have it to yourself. An admission fee is also required, $7 at time of writing (2023).

From the nature center, you'll follow a short walkway that turns into an elevated metal platform. This leads into the box canyon, offering great views. The metal walkway stays well above water level, and has handrails the entire way - although anyone with an extreme fear of heights may find themselves a bit uncomfortable.

The walkway leads to an impressive, thundering waterfall. You can also descend a staircase to water level if you wish.

After visiting the falls, be sure to check out the other two trails within the park. The short Native Plant Loop is an easy stroll around the visitor center, while the High Bridge Trail is a half-mile (round trip) hike that gains 200 feet elevation and leads to the High Bridge that spans the box canyon and offers stunning views. You can also connect to the Ouray Perimeter Trail from here for an extended hike.

Short Walk: Short walk from parking area. Anyone with an extreme fear of heights may not enjoy the canyon.
