Description
Pont d'Arc is a must-see when in Ardeche. It is one of the only natural bridges in the world, crossing the Ardeche river and its gorges.
Before man made bridges started appearing, it was the only way to cross the river. The bridge has been used for thousands of years, as early as the hunter gatherer era. It was also victim of wars of religions, when it was partially destroyed in the 17th century to slow down Protestant armies. Fortunately, the damage was only limited.
In the summer, it is a very popular location for swimming and kayaking. Several rental shops are available up the river, in Vallon. If you can, it's highly recommended to pass underneath the bridge in your kayak!
Short Walk: Access via Pont d'Arc Promenade or Pont d'Arc - Viewpoint Access Path.
