Description
Visitors will undoubtedly be impressed by what is the largest and most stunning serpent effigy in the US. The Serpent Mound is one of the few effigy mounds in Ohio, and is located on a lush plateau that overlooks the Brush Creek Valley. At nearly a quarter mile long, the effigy mound resembles an huge, uncoiling serpent.
While the true meaning and history of the mound are unknown, visitors can stop by the nearby museum which contains exhibits on the mound and the geology of the surrounding area to learn more. The site also contains several conical mounds that contained artifacts from the prehistoric Adena people (800 BC-AD 100).
Short Walk: Parking is available at the southern end of the mound, and visitors can explore the mound on the easy, well-maintained trails that wind through the area.
Family Friendly: Kids will be impressed by this ancient wonder and will enjoy exploring the area on the short, easy trails.
