Eielson Visitor Center [Suggest Edits]
Description
Photographers hoping to capture some of Denali's beauty, or hoping for glimpses of the park's wildlife will enjoy a stop at this scenic visitor center.
Opening in June yearly, this visitor center provides especially spectacular views for those who make the journey. Situated in a low-lying structure, this visitor center itself is unobtrusive, which is a blessing for those seeking panoramic views. From your vantage point, you'll have especially spectacular views of Denali, and on a sunny day, the mountain is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Even on a cloudy day, or when Denali is shrouded in cloud, visitors will have plenty to look forward too. Wildflowers and wildlife abound! In June and July, you'll be able to take in the gorgeous tundra wildflowers, and the colorful display is a sight to see. If you're visiting later in the year, this is still a great spot for viewing some of the larger residents of the park. Caribou and grizzly bears frequent the area, and you'll be likely to see them here. More common critters like pika and marmots also inhabit the area, and are a bit more obliging to photographers. Please remember to keep your distance, as ALL wildlife can be dangerous if approached.
Park rangers at Eielson are happy to provide information, answer questions or just spend a few minutes chatting as you take a break from the bus. Several ranger programs are offered throughout the day from Eielson, and these informative programs are great for the whole family. More information on these ranger-led programs can be found here.
There is also a small gallery of art inspired by Denali's wilderness and wildlife in this visitor center, and interpretive signage near the visitor center and on the nearby trails that provides an insightful glimpse into the park's amazing history and landscape.
On the Road: Located in the middle of Denali National Park at mile 66, the visitor center can be accessed via shuttle bus. You won't have to stray very far from the comfort of the vehicle to enjoy the sights of the area.
Family Friendly: With a variety of educational materials and some of the best vantage points in the park, the whole family will enjoy a trip to this visitor center.
