Description

Seeing the park's namesake peak is a sight that shouldn't be missed when visiting Denali National Park. While it might seem like seeing North America's tallest peak would be an easy task, the massive mountain, which is 20,320 feet high, is often shrouded in clouds, and the various vantage points in the park may allow visitors to only see the top or bottom of the peak, but not the full mountain on a clear day.

Stony Hill Overlook is one of the best places to view Denali on a clear day. Seen from afar, this impressive peak can be seen from many parts of the park (and even from Anchorage), but the view from Stony Hill is superlative. If you can catch a clear, sunny afternoon to visit this viewpoint, you won't be disappointed.

Denali was previously known as Mt. McKinley, but on the eve of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary, the name was officially changed to Denali. This amazing mountain with its sheer sides and towering pinnacles is a breathtaking and iconic sight.

Visitors to Stony Hill Overlook may also be fortunate enough to see local wildlife such as the Toklat Wolf Pack or the migrating Sandhill Cranes.

On the Road: You can reach this point with Eielson, Wonder Lake or Kantishna shuttles, the Kantishna Experience Tour, or - on nice days - the Tundra Wilderness Tour.

Located right on the road, visitors won't have to go far for some of the most memorable views of Denali that the park has to offer.

Family Friendly: With incredible views, great photo opportunities, and an amazing area to explore, even the youngest children can appreciate this incredible vista.

Best view of Denali in the Park. Clouded over today, but could see the base. Climbed snow-covered Stony Hill.
