Description

Head to this breathtaking viewpoint in the early hours of the day to watch the sunrise over the west-facing walls of The Island and the valley floors of Wedding and Monument Canyons. Just off the Saddlehorn Loop, this pull-off is truly a must-see.

Bring binoculars to watch as climbers scale the walls of the Sentinel Spire just to the southeast of the lookout or peer down over the valley floor to spot deer and bighorn sheep. To the southeast, beyond Sentinel Spire, look for the Praying Hands, Independence Monument and Kissing Couple.

This lookout is one of the best in the national monument and the perfect spot to take in the surrounding area and all it has to offer.

On the Road: The viewing platform is right in front of a small pull-off parking area for the Book Cliffs View. If these spaces are full, continue north around the bend to the Window Rock Trail Parking Area and use the Window Rock Trail to connect down to the Canyon Rim Trail.

Family Friendly: A beautiful vista that can be even more picturesque in the quiet hours surrounding dawn and dusk.
