If you’re looking for a trip to one of Shenandoah’s incredible peaks and are hoping for a shorter, more moderate outing, a trip to Stony Man may be for you. Located conveniently close to the Skyland Resort, Stony Man offers a lot in the way of scenery and viewpoints without the crowds that can be found elsewhere in the park.

The journey to the summit is part of what makes this area special, and along either the Stony Man Trail or the Stony Man Horse Trail, visitors will ascend along a ridge that offers dramatic views all the way to the top. The route is short, which gives visitors ample time to slow down and appreciate the sights. Along the way, hikers will pass a crag that is popular among rock climbers, and stopping to chat or simply to observe can be an enjoyable side trip for the curious.

Once you’ve gained the summit, take a moment to enjoy the sweeping views of the Shenandoah Valley. This is a good place to catch some sun and have a snack before returning to your vehicle.

Short Hike: A round-trip visit to this scenic point will be less than 1.5 miles, on a maintained trail. Parking is located at the Stony Man parking area, and visitors can choose to hike either the Stony Man Trail or the Stony Man Horse Trail to reach the viewpoint.

Family Friendly: The shorter routing of the trail may be more accessible for the whole family.
