While most visitors are drawn to the Old Faithful area by the geyser, there are many spectacular sights in addition to geothermal oddities. The Old Faithful Inn is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the park, and generations of visitors have made this hotel a jumping off point for Yellowstone exploration. Boasting a massive fireplace and hand-crafted copper clock, the “Old House” of the hotel is sure to impress. The entire structure was constructed using local materials, and the end result is the massive log and stone structure visible today. The lodge is so large in fact, that it is regarded as the largest log structure in the world.

While the hotel is continually being updated and renovated, a stay here might be considered “primitive” by today’s standards. Rooms lack air conditioning, televisions, and radios, and it’s recommended that guests fill their time exploring the incredible geyser basin located just outside the front door.

Due to the incredible size, unique architecture, and painstaking craftsmanship, it’s no surprise that the Old Faithful Inn was designated as a National Historic Site in 1987. Any visitor to the Old Faithful area would be remiss in passing up a stop at this beautiful and historic building.
