Description

The Toe of the Glacier is an ever-changing attraction as it is literally where the glacier ends. Because the glacier is currently retreating, the toe is located further up the valley each year. Assuming you're visiting at a time of low water and you make it all the way to the toe, you'll get an awesome, up close and personal experience with the glacier.

Half-Day Hike: From the parking lot, follow the Exit Glacier Paved Path and continue on the Edge of the Glacier Trail. Eventually, you'll see a turn-off and a spur toward the Toe. Getting to the Toe includes crossing the rocky outwash plain. This area may be inaccessible due to flooding and there is no established trail across the plain. If the water level is low, you can pick your way through the rocky outwash to the toe, or terminus, of the glacier.

Family Friendly: Assuming the kids are up for scrambling off-trail through a rocky outwash, this is a great adventure for the family. Don't, however, expect to push a stroller to the toe!
