Mooney Falls [Suggest Edits]
Description
Mooney Falls is a 200-foot waterfall accessed by an 11-mile hike into the Grand Canyon. The waterfall is on the Havasupai Indian Reservation, and to see it, visitors must acquire permits through the Havasupai Tourist Office.
The first 10.5 miles of the hike are relatively easy (see the Hualapai Hilltop to Havasupai Campground trail for details), weaving through the canyon on flat or downhill terrain. But the final descent into Mooney Falls is not for the faint-hearted. With the help of a series of ladders and chains, visitors have to climb down a large, mist-covered cliff that can be quite slippery and dangerous.
Make sure to wear proper footwear and have both hands free so you can properly hold the chains and ladders, as this is a very remote area where you do not want to get injured.
All-Day Hike: An 11-mile hike from the Hualapai Hilltop parking lot, located off out Indian Route 18.
Gem Type: Waterfall
