Description

The Rhododendron Gardens are located atop Roan Mountain, a five mile ridgeline ranging from 6,286' atop Roan High Knob to 5,500' atop Carver's Gap. This high elevation places the Rhododendron Gardens in a Canadian-like temperate zone.

Every year, thousands of people visit the mountain at the peak bloom period during late June. Each rhododendron bush might boast over 100 clusters of flowers and there are many hundreds of bushes spread out over the mountainsides. The Catawba Rhododendron bushes are naturally shaped to appear as if they have been pruned by the hand of man to achieve their perfect shape.
