McKeldin Rapids [Suggest Edits]

Description

The McKeldin rapids is a stretch of the south branch of the Patapsco River that cascades over boulders down into a serene pond. The area makes for one of the most scenic locations in the Patapsco Watershed, with the rumble of the rapids giving way to a large calm pond before the river bends and returns to form. The north side of the pond has a small sandy beach area that is good for kids and picnicking, although there is no swimming allowed.

Short Hike: There is limited parking available at the McKeldin Rapids Trail. From the parking lot, there is a short paved trail with a bit of a slope leading to a viewing platform. To the left of the viewing platform, the McKeldin Rapids Trail leads down a short but steep stretch of stairs cut into the slope. These connect to a small beach along the bottom of the rapids with a picnic table.
