Description

These geological gems are well worth the dirt road and rocks that you have to drive and scramble over to get here. These lava tubes were formed when a series of volcanic eruptions took place. These eruptions sent flows of lava creeping their way across the land. This lava (rhyolitic lava) does not spread out far, or fast. The flows would have moved slowly and spread out smoothly. After a while, the lava on top would cool, while the lava beneath keeps moving. Once this happens, you get lava tubes and caves.

Short Hike: Just 300 yards from the parking area.

Family Friendly: The whole family will enjoy exploring the caves.

There are steps if you follow the trail to get you down into the caves. You'll have to duck to get through a short hallway to the big chamber.
