Hoover Dam [Suggest Edits]
Description
Hoover Dam is one of the world's greatest engineering marvels, and you don't even have to get out of your car to see it! The first concrete was laid in 1933 and in 1935 it is dedicated by Franklin D. Roosevelt. From 1941 to the end of WWII the Dam was closed to the public and traffic moved over with a military convoy. During WWII the Dam supplied most of the electricity to Las Angeles where major military manufacturing plants were located. Due to this, the government installed a series of pillboxes with mounted machine guns, that were watching the dam 24/7 until the end of the war.
The Hoover Dam is quite the attraction nowadays with plenty of interpretive panels, tours, a visitor center, and much more!
