Overview

On the morning of July 16 1861, the fields overlooking Bull Run rang with the sounds of battle. The Union and Confederate armies clashed at Manassas for the first time that morning. The initial bitter battle removed any hope for a quick war. In 1862, the armies clashed again on these same fields. Today, the Manassas National Battlefield Park is the perfect opportunity to learn about the events leading up to the Civil War, and to discover more about these two influential battles. The park is steeped in American history, and visitors will have every opportunity to imagine what life would have been like for soldiers in the 1860's.
