Dogs Off-leash
Description
This trail is described as remote only because it is infrequently traversed. You are unlikely to see anyone along this stretch and the trail can be challenging to follow. This is also the same route used during the Hardrock 100, so it will be easiest to follow shortly after the hike, since that is when it'll see the most use.
The trail starts in Cunningham Gulch close to the pit toilet and climbs the west wall. It climbs steeply away from the road toward the ridge. You then follow the ridge (the trail can be hard to follow here, and really the rest of the way) uphill before dropping into the valley below Green Mountain.
The trail will then loop around to the left (west and then north-northwest) toward Stoney pass, just below Canby Mountain. The trail then heads north, descending toward the valley below. Eventually, you'll see the road heading up Maggie Gulch. It ends at an old mine site and this is where you are aiming.
Once this point on the road is reached, begin climbing up the other side of the valley. This route is a bit easier to follow. Upon reaching the ridge this will connect with the West Pole Creek trail as well as the CT/CDT, allowing for extended and loop options.
