There are no services at the parking area, so you'll need to drive down the road roughly a quarter of a mile to the visitor center where there are restrooms, water, and a covered picnic area on Mosquito Lagoon where you can enjoy a snack or meal.
Description
Located in Canaveral National Seashore, the Turtle Mound trail is a boardwalk that climbs to the top of Turtle Mound where sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Mosquito Lagoon. Departing from small parking lot in the Apollo Beach area of the park, the trail begins a stead climb to two viewing platforms at the top of Turtle Mound. Turtle Mound is an oyster shell mound that was historically approximately 70 feet tall. Today, the plant life in the area is a mix of temperate and subtropic.
When you get to the viewing platforms, sweeping views of the area spread out before you. If you look closely at the ground underneath the boardwalk, you can see the oyster shells that make up Turtle Mound. Once you have enjoyed the views, you can move to the other platform to enjoy more views before retracing your steps back down to the parking area.
