The Buffalo Skull Tract is open year-round. There are no fees or permits required. The road between the trailhead and 280th Street is dirt and may be hard for low clearance vehicles to navigate when conditions are muddy, icy, or snowy.

Description

This is one of the four tracts of forest and bluff lands along the Lower St. Croix River that are managed and conserved by the Standing Cedars Community Land Conservancy. From the kiosk at the trailhead, this trail goes north across an old farm field, through a patch of forest, and then past another area of recovering farm land. It then passes the Buttermilk Falls Spur Trail, turns to the west, and goes through a long stand of forest.
A mile from the trailhead, there's a short hike on a dirt road (part of the road, 55th Avenue or Drawbridge Road, leading to the trailhead) before the trail resumes across some old farm land and through another piece of forest. It then circles east and north around a large open meadow being used for pasture before going through another piece of forest and ending back at the trailhead.
