Ridge looms to the east of Durango. The west face overlooking town is so steep that only hiking trails provide access. For example, there is no way to get from Powerline Trail directly up onto the ridge.

You can reach the ridge top in two ways. From the north, take Skyline Trail to Extended Ridge. From the east, take Horse Gulch Road then Wilke's Way will climb relatively gradually to intersect Ridge. Once on top, the deformed sandstone provides nonstop chunky goodness. Going from north to south is most fun.
