Description

According to the sign boards posted at the junctions of the Logchutes Trail system - the first section Logchutes #2 Trail overlaps with Logchutes #1 and Logchutes #3 trails. This is a confusing naming system, but the following description replicates the posted sign boards.

There are multiple options to connect with other trails in the Log Chutes Trail system to make longer rides, and it can be ridden in either direction. This area feels uncrowded and remote for being so close to town.

Logchutes #2 Trail starts from a large dirt parking area just off Junction Creek Road. The wide doubletrack trail starts off pretty flat, following the contour of the hillside. Parts of the beginning of the trail are sometimes overgrown with weeds. You'll wind through ponderosa pine forest and mostly be shaded. Soon, Logchutes #2 Trail branches off to the north, away from Logchutes Loop #1 and Logchutes #3.

After the split from the other Logchutes trails, you'll climb uphill steeply until the signed junction with another part of Logchutes Loop #3. Head due west to stay on Logchutes #2. The trail here is narrow, rutted singletrack with scrub oak encroaching. Eventually the trail becomes wide doubletrack as it winds through the ponderosa and a couple small aspen groves. After a few views to the west, the trail crosses Junction Creek Road. Pick up the trail on the other side of this road and descend a bit more steeply past an old wooden corral. Continue generally downhill eastward through forest, through a few small meadows and finally along a bench to reach a lower section of Junction Creek road, completing the loop back at the parking area and trailhead.
